The department has the following mandate: –        Mineral and raw materials research development –        Science and technology promotion –        Promotion of inventions and innovations among individuals and corporate bodies in the state –        Laboratory services –        Indigenous technology development –        Bio-technology development etc The department is now Directorate of Science as Two (2) new departments (ie Directorate of Technology & Directorate of Innovation) were recently created from it.
