Divisions of the Energy Directorate The Directorate of Energy in the new Ministry is divided into two main sections, which include:
  1. Renewable/Alternative Energy Development
  2. Non-Renewable Energy Development

  Policy formation and implementation the Ministry of Science and Technology in Benue State has several policies and implementation aimed at driving development through Energy, Science, Technology and Innovation. Some of these include:
  1. Science and Technology Promotion: The Ministry organizes servicers, workshops and other programs to popularize science and technological activities at the local and state levels.
  2. ICT Development: The ministry aims to give policy guidance to converged industry and develop indigenous capacity in ict technologies and software development.
  3. Renewable Energy: The ministry has implemented project such as solar power street light to promote sub-stainable energy solutions.
  4. Capacity Building: The ministry provides training and capacity building programs for staff and stakeholders including in-house training and academic participation in the national and international science and technology competitions.
  5. Research and Development: The ministry conducts research and development in various areas of science and technology, space research including biotechnology and energy development. The ministry’s policies are guided by the national policy on energy, science, technology and innovation which provides a frame work forlevel raging energy, science, technology and innovation in areas such as Human Capital Development, Agriculture, energy and job creation.

Functions of the Energy Department

-        To liaise with the Federal agencies on energy matters

-        To popularize the use of renewable energy sources in the state

-        To increase energy reliance through sustainable research and development (R&D) in all the Energy sources for peaceful and development purposes.

-        To carryout installation and maintenance of renewable and non-renewable energy component in the state such as solar street lights Biomass and Gas plants, Wind energy devices etc.

-        Ensuring the impact of research and development (R&D) result in Benue economy through the promotion of indigenous research capacity to facilitate Technology adaptation, acquisition and transfer.

-        Promotion of wealth and job creation through support to key industrial and manufacturing sectors.

-        To maintain a data base of renewable and non-renewable energy sources locations in the state.
